Dave Bautista admits wrestling retirements have ‘no credibility’ amid rumours the WWE legend could be heading to AEW.

Paul Wight – formerly known as The Big Show – shocked the business as he left Vince McMahon’s company after a 22 year career and signed a deal with rival promotion All Elite Wrestling, and he’s now promised another Hall of Fame-calibre star is following him.

This has prompted speculation that Big Dave – known to wrestling fans simply as Batista – could be heading to Florida, despite announcing his retirement after an epic WrestleMania 35 clash with on-screen foe and real life friend Triple H.

Responding to the idea he could go back on that to join AEW, he tweeted: ‘They’re going to have to come up with another word thats used specifically for professional wrestlers who actually mean it when they say they’re retired.

‘Currently the word “retired” has zero credibility by professional wrestling standards. (sic)’

Although some followers took this to mean Batista was open to a comeback, it seemed clear he was suggesting he’s one of the few who genuinely has no intention of making a return.

Back in April 2019, he wrote on Instagram: ‘To all the @wwe fans across the world that gave me the opportunity to suspend your disbelief, thank you.

‘From the biggest part of my heart thank you for letting me entertain you. Tonight was my story book ending and I wanted to leave you with all I had to give.

‘I’ll miss this theater of violence more than I can express in words but I am officially retiring from Sports Entertainment.

‘I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, I leave in great health, and without a doubt the show will go on. I had a hell of a run. Thank you for the journey #dreamchaser #wrestlemania35. (sic)’

Regardless of whether or not Batista shows up, there is plenty of speculation surrounding the mystery man set to debut at AEW Revolution.

Teasing the new arrival on Dynamite this week, Wight said: ‘I have the biggest scoop ever.

‘This Sunday at Revolution, AEW is going to hire, put in-contract, a Hall of Fame worthy talent that is a hug surprise and a huge asset to AEW. But listen, it’s not who you think.’
