Peter Andre’s wife Emily MacDonagh has called out influencers including Zara Holland, who was last week fined for breaching Barbados’ Covid-19 rules, for showing off their flashy holidays overseas while everyone else is in lockdown.
Love Island star Zara, who appeared on the show in 2016, appeared in court last Wednesday in Barbados and was fined £4,417 for trying to flee the island with her partner, Elliot Love, who had tested positive for Covid-19.
Responding to the amount of celebrities who spent the festive break overseas – despite overseas travel being banned unless for a ‘legally permitted reason’, such as for work – Emily, who is a junior doctor with the NHS, believed if influencers were breaking the rules while travelling it shouldn’t be advertised on social media.
‘So many celebrities have been criticised for travelling abroad during lockdown,’ she wrote in her latest column for OK! ’We don’t know the circumstances and some of them could be working, but I think if they are breaking the rules then they shouldn’t be putting it on social media when we’re all stuck in lockdown back home!’
She name-dropped Zara, adding: ‘Former Love Island star Zara Holland was lucky to only receive a £4,417 fine after breaching quarantine rules in Barbados. You have to put the health of other people first and to try and leave Barbados after her boyfriend tested positive wasn’t the right thing to do.’
Emily also shared her thoughts on the current lockdown guidelines, with the country currently in its third national lockdown after Prime Minister Boris Johnson brought back the slogan ‘stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives’.
Speaking about the latest measures, the doctor insisted action has to be taken to help beat the pandemic.
She wrote: ‘We’re in a national lockdown now and I think it’s good we’ve taken action, because things would have only got worse, but I don’t have much confidence that lockdown actually works.
‘We seem to have been doing it for nearly a year and not much has changed, but that’s not to say that I know what the right thing is, and I don’t think we have many options at the moment to prevent the NHS from becoming overwhelmed.’
A rep confirmed the Mysterious Girl hitmaker had tested positive, after reports claimed Peter had been ‘feeling weak and struggling to breathe’.
He later opened up about his diagnosis on social media, while he isolates at home, and Peter was seen praising wife Emily for being there for him over the last few days when he hadn’t been feeling well.
Reacting to this positive test, Emily said: ‘The weird bit about this is he actually hasn’t gone anywhere, he’s the most careful person I know.
‘When it came back positive, I was absolutely shocked. He just stayed at home, it’s so weird, we don’t really know where he’s got it from. Luckily, he’s pretty well… just a bit under the weather.’
