Dancing On Ice stars have been forbidden from being touched in rehearsals for the ITV show even though they need to learn lifts.

Strict coronavirus safety precautions have been put into place by bosses, meaning that the 12 contestants can only come into close contact with their professional partners.

As a result, the 2021 celebrities are no doubt being put through their paces when it comes to learning risky moves such as the notorious headbangers, as Olympic legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are unable to lend a hand on the ice.

‘This year’s so different to any other year when it comes to lifts,’ Capital FM presenter Sonny Jay confessed.

He added to The Sun: ‘It’s trial and error with the lifts.’

An ITV spokesperson said: ‘We have stringent protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of all our contributors and staff which are routinely monitored and updated to reflect the current guidelines.’

Earlier this week, Rebekah Vardy accidentally put her dance partner Any Buchanan in hospital after a training incident.

Explaining the accident, she said: ‘We were practicing a trick and we changed it slightly from something that we would normally do – and we did it on a daily basis and everything would go right and nothing would go wrong.

‘On this occasion, it went very wrong and the back of my heel and my blade sliced his face open.’

This year’s Dancing On Ice returns on Sunday with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield presenting.

Meanwhile, Jayne, Christopher, John Barrowman and Ashley Banjo are continuing their place as judges.

Dancing On Ice returns this Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
