IMPACT Wrestling’s Eric Young has heaped praise on AEW star Chris Jericho – and hailed him as ‘the best’ in the business.
The former world champion had high praise for the legendary wrestler as their respective promotions seem to have forged some kind of working agreement together.
Discussing the magic of finding a connection with the fans, he exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s a very interesting thing, you just never know what’s going to catch on.
‘When you get really good at it and you gain experience, you get good at making whatever you’re doing catch on. Chris Jericho is maybe the best at it.
‘Just gimmick after gimmick, merchandise thing after merchandise thing, saying after saying. Everything he does and says turns to gold.
‘He’s a guy that I love personally – we have a very cool relationship, and a guy that I respect a great deal.’
The so-called Demo God has even managed to do that during a pandemic, when companies have been without fans for much of the past 10 months.
In IMPACT Wrestling – where, like WWE, fans are still yet to return – the stars have to rely on the online response rather than the roar of a crowd.
EY added: ‘Part of becoming really good at wrestling and gaining experience is having an idea of what you’re going to do, you start going that and then notice it’s not really catching and the live crowd isn’t reacting how you thought they would.
‘When you get really good at it you’re able to change that on the fly. That’s something I really pride myself on and without an audience you don’t have that.
‘There is no instant feedback, you’re just doing what you thought you were going to do and hoping people enjoy that.’
When it comes to Young himself, he insisted while he isn’t ‘the best’ at a specific area of the wrestling business, he holds himself up against ‘anybody’ as an all round star.
‘There’s very few people ever in the history of wrestling that have experience what I have experienced,’ he said. ‘I’ve seen the card from every angle.
‘I’ve been in the opening match, I’ve been in the main event, I’ve been a bad guy, a good guy, I’ve been the laughing stock, I’ve been someone to be afraid of.’
That’s certainly been proven with the World Class Maniac’s latest run in IMPACT Wrestling, which has resulted in two world title reigns.
He added: ‘I don’t think I’m the best at any one thing. I can keep up with anybody on the ring, I can keep up with anybody on the mic – I’m versatile in that way.
‘The number one feather in my cap is whatever it is that you give me, I’m probably gonna do it and probably do it better than you think I can.’
