Miley Cyrus is in mourning following the death of her dog and ‘best friend’, Mary Jane.
The Wrecking Ball star is heartbroken at the loss of her adorable canine companion of 10 years, a pit bull mix, who succumbed to cancer.
In a lengthy tribute, Miley took to Instagram to talk about her emotions.
She shared images of Mary Jane alongside a song she wrote several years ago that centres around the dog.
Miley said: ‘I wrote this song in Malibu years ago on a piano in a house that no longer exists. About my dog Mary Jane who is also gone now.’
She went on to elaborate on her feelings on her Instagram Stories, saying: ‘Anyone who knows me & it doesn’t have to be well is aware that my best friend in the whole world is a rescued pit bull mix named Mary Jane.’
‘I was told it’d be an uncertain amount of time until she’s gone. Advised to spend every second savouring her special spirit… which wasn’t anything new. I had been for 10 years.’
Miley revealed her gratitude in the final heartbreaking moments of Mary Jane’s life, saying: ‘I thanked her repeatedly as she took her last breath for who and what she has been to me.
‘It was something more than a friend or family member. Something so different. You cant define it. Our connection was purely DIVINE. An incomparable love.’
The singer added: ‘She is no longer hurting but I am. That’s what love is.’
