Ever since Bridgerton was released on Netflix on Christmas Day, Regé-Jean Page has quickly become a household name among fans of the period drama.

Playing the brooding Duke of Hastings, Regé-Jean’s commanding performance has resulted in him being tipped as a potential James Bond successor when Daniel Craig steps down as 007.

But before the 31-year-old set the tongues of Bridgerton’s high society wagging as Simon Bassett, he had a starring role on another TV drama – the now-cancelled Waterloo Road.

So who did the actor play on the BBC series?

In Regé-Jean’s first appearance, in episode 13, it is immediately made clear that Guy already knows pupil Carrie Norton (Tahirah Sharif), with it being revealed that the pair are siblings.

While taking part in a fast-track, six-week programme at Waterloo Road, Guy is shown to be struggling financially, resulting in him having to spend some nights sleeping at the school.

Later, Guy is able to stay at other people’s houses, first at the head of modern foreign languages George Windsor’s (Angus Deayton) for a short while and then at the home of school secretary Sonya Donnegan (Victoria Bush).

After developing a crush on Guy, Sonya learns that he is gay, with Guy telling her: ‘I do really like you, just not in that way.’

What else has Regé-Jean starred in?

Before Waterloo Road, the Bridgerton star appeared in medical drama Casualty and in two episodes of university comedy Fresh Meat.

He also had an uncredited role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, in addition to more recently starring in the 2018 action film Mortal Engines and the 2020 romantic drama Sylvie’s Love.

Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix and Waterloo Road is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
