Britain’s Got Talent judge Ashley Banjo is left stunned tonight by magician Damien O’Brien – for more reasons than one.

Damien, 35, competes on tonight’s semi-final in the hopes of getting a place in the grand final, after impressing in the audition rounds by transforming a phone into a block of metal.

And tonight’s performance blows the judges’ minds even more.

The Londoner asks Ashley to think of a word to describe his time on BGT, before asking him to single out his favourite specific time of the day.

Damien then asks Amanda to remember the date of the biggest turning point in her craeerr, Alesha to tell him the country she most wanted to visit in Mis-Teeq, and David the actor or comedian he wanted to get advice from.

And as the trick is revealed, judges Ashley, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams were left scratching their heads.

Alesha said: ‘That’s genuinely freaking me out. Sometimes with magic acts you can kind of try to figure it out, but with that, I’m genuinely gobsmacked.

‘That’s going to bug me all night.’

But Ashley had more reason to be taken aback – as it turns out Damien performed at his wedding.

The 31-year-old, who married wife Francesca in July 2015, said: ‘I’m genuinely a bit freaked out. Let me tell you what went through my mind.I saw you come on and thought “oh, hey man. Last time I saw you, you performed at my wedding.”  How funny is that?’

The dancer admitted that he was initially concerned about whether Damien could own the big stage, but said: ‘You just kept layering it and layering it. Where I thought it was going to be predictable, it wasn’t.’

David added of the trick: ‘If Simon was here, he’d say you have magical powers, that’s the only explanation for this. So please use those powers for good, not for evil.’

Viewers will have to wait and see whether Damien gets through to the final on tonight’s show, which was pre-recorded to adhere to Covid-19 guidelines.

Also performing tonight are singer Souparnika Nair, choir Class Dynamix, comedian Allan Finnegan, Amanda and her dog Miracle, dancers Aaron and Jasmine, mother and daughter singers Honey and Sammy, and dance troupe The Coven.

Britain’s Got Talent is on tonight at 8pm on ITV.
