Ed Sheeran and wife Cherry Seaborn have welcomed a baby girl, Lyra.
The singer made the sweet announcement on Tuesday morning, not long after rumours emerged the pair were expecting a baby.
Sharing a sweet photo to Instagram of a blanket and pair of booties, the Shape Of You Singer made his personal news public, letting fans know both Cherry, 28, and baby are doing well.
The 29-year-old wrote in the caption: ‘Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you… Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
‘We are completely in love with her.’
‘Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x.’
Earlier this month rumours emerged the pair were expecting a baby, with Ed and Cherry able to keep the news under wraps thanks to lockdown.
‘Ed and Cherry are over the moon. They’re very excited, but have kept things very low key,’ a source told The Sun at the time.
‘Lockdown was a perfect excuse not to be seen out and about too much, but things are getting closer and the excitement has been building so they have started telling friends and family.’
‘They’re just making the last of the preparations at home, and the baby is expected later this summer,’ they added. ‘It’s a really happy time and their families are all totally delighted for them and cannot wait to meet the new arrival.’
The Thinking Out Loud singer tied the knot with his childhood sweetheart in 2018 after the pair reconnected back in 2014 and started dating.
Despite being one of the biggest singers on the planet – and dedicating emotional ballads to his wife – Ed has made sure to keep their relationship largely out of the public eye.
Following his time on the road, he announced last year that he would be taking a well-earned break from music and social media.
‘Hello all. Gonna go on another break again,’ he shared on Instagram. ‘The Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see some more of the world.’
He went on: ‘I’ve been a bit non-stop since 2017 so I’m just gonna take a breather to travel, write and read.
‘I’ll be off all social media until it’s time to come back.’
‘To my family and friends, see ya when I see ya, and to my fans, thank you for always being amazing.
‘I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right, and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about.’
Ed shot to fame back in 2011 with the release of single The A Team, from his debut studio album, +, and has provided us with countless bops ever since. Ed’s last tour, for his Divide album, broke records and became the highest-grossing string of dates of all time.
Congratulations to Ed and Cherry!
